Learn about our chemical analysis

Chemical analysis determines the elemental and chemical composition of materials. This testing is essential to ensure compliance with technical and regulatory specifications. We offer accurate and reliable chemical analysis services to support the quality of materials and manufacturing processes.

Chemical analysis of various metal alloys in accordance with ASTM standards is carried out within the chemical department of the SMT Materials Testing Laboratory, thanks to the high specificity analysis instruments the department is equipped with:

  • SPECTROLAB, which performs elemental chemical analysis by optical emission spectrometry (Quantometer-OES) according to ASTM E415, ASTM E1086, ASTM E1251 and ASTM E3047.LECO, which performs elemental analysis according to ASTM E1019 for the determination of the elements carbon and sulfur.
  • ELEMENTRAC, for the analysis of interstitial gases according to ASTM E1019, which allows the determination of oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen concentrations.

The chemistry department of the SMT Materials Testing Laboratory is also equipped to conduct “Positive Material Identification – PMI” tests either on-site or at the customer’s site through the use of a portable optical emission analyzer (SPECTROTEST).
