Drop weight test

The Drop Weight Test evaluates the resistance of a material to impact through the impact of a falling weight. This test is essential for determining the fracture toughness of materials, especially in critical applications where resistance to sudden impacts is important. We use advanced technologies to provide accurate and reliable results.

The drop weight test, also known as the “Pellini” test, is used to evaluate the ductility of the tested material by embrittling it by welding. This test is governed by the ASTM E208 standard.

The SMT Materials Testing Laboratory is equipped with drop weight testing equipment for P1, P2 and P3 specimens and thermostatic baths that reach down to -140°C.
