Macrographic examinations

Macrographic examinations involve the observation of macro-structural features of the specimen to be analyzed, that is, those observable at low magnification, indicatively less than 30-50x.
Macrographic examinations are widely used in the analysis of various types of semi-finished products and metallurgical products, as well as for the verification of welded joints.
Depending on the type of material, semifinished product and/or product under consideration, it is possible to observe characteristics such as, for example: segregations, homogeneity of structure, presence of defects such as tears, cracks and porosity, banding and fiber trends, dimensional and geometric characteristics in the case of welded joints.

// questions and answers

clear up your doubts

What does a macrographic examination involve?

Macrographic examination involves observation of specimens at low magnification to identify defects and macroscopic features.

What is the difference between a macrographic and a micrographic examination?

Macrographic examination observes features visible to the naked eye or at low magnification, while micrographic examination analyzes the microstructure of materials at much higher levels of magnification.
