Success story
Since 1979, the year Sider Metro Tests was founded, the ground rules have never changed: the company is based on a close collaboration between the ownership and the company’s intangible values that recognize the importance of the people who created it and those who, with the same ideals, lead it with a view to continuous improvement.
Sider Metro Tests, which initially carried out calibration, repair and sales of used testing machines, was taken over in 1983 by Cesare Certini who, a few years later, moved it to its current location in Pozzo d’Adda, near Milan. The business expanded to include the mechanical processing of specimens for metal material testing, and the name changed to SMT.
The birth of the technological laboratory marked another turning point in the company’s progress of growth and development; passion, vision and the ability to invest in the future decreed the success and affirmation of the SMT material testing laboratory.
RESILIENT COMPANY
Thanks to continuous investment, SMT has been able to face and overcome all the critical moments in which it has found itself over the course of its 40 years in business: being able to seize opportunities for evolution and growth from difficulties is part of the company’s DNA.
Insight, tenacity and resilience have enabled the SMT materials testing laboratory to quintuple its turnover and increase its staff, which now boasts more than 50 employees, with state-of-the-art technological equipment and operating space.
The company currently covers a total area of 4,100 m2 plus 4,500 m2 of uncovered area: this allows the development of innovative activities aimed at customer saticsfation and the potential diversification of its activities.

With the clear goal of meeting customers’ expectations, the company has specially created and implemented jobs that fit perfectly with the philosophy of the SMT materials testing laboratory: job managers, figures with a high level of expertise and a strong predisposition for problem solving, with whom the customer can interface directly by opening a constructive dialogue aimed at the mutual acquisition of new and ongoing skills.
With a fully equipped training room, the company is able to offer a comprehensive service both to its own internal staff, organizing training courses based on the individual’s growth needs, and collaborating with external corporations to conduct courses with the participation of various companies in the industry.
